Ink and Paper Choice Makes a Difference

The five printed images below were printed from a cold plate to preserve contrast, wiped with tarlatan, then hand wiped at the center to bring up the highlights...

An Inked Plate

Trying different combinations of inks and papers helps the artist decide what mood they want to set for the edition.  Susan created this plate  from a photograph taken by Denise Fuson.

Something Light

Payne's Gray ink,  heavily diluted with transparent base, gives this image a soft, ethereal appeal.

Details, Details

A touch of Graphic Chemical Stiff Black ink to the previous Payne's Gray mixture reveals more image details

Blacker Still

Increasing the density of Stiff Black in the mix results in a moodier image

Paper Thin

The use of a delicate Kinwashi paper for this print lifts the mood, even though the same heavy black ink mix has been used as in the previous image

Local Color

An  À la poupée  combination of Charbonnel Ultramarine mixed with black, and Graphic Chemical Lithography Process Red (mixed with ultramarine), printed on a warmer tone of paper, recalls  the living colors of this California flora.
